Adopting With RFTSR

Arielle is currently available for adoption.

When adopting an animal with RFTSR we ask that you remember and respect that all our animals are in foster homes which means we cannot simply do not have the animal available at all times to meet you.
When you have seen one of our rescue animals and are interested in potentially adopting them we ask that you begin the process by filling out an adoption application with which we can determine if it is a potential good match and set up a meeting between you, the animal you are interested in and ourselves. If all goes well there we will follow up with a homecheck after which members of our organization will determine whether the match seems like the right one for the animal and for you.
Our main goal is not just to find a home for an animal but to find both the right home for each animal as well as the right animal for you and your family so that everyone can have years of shared happiness.
Obviously this process takes more than one day and we ask your understanding and patience when making a decision that will last a lifetime... your dog or cat's!

For more information on adopting an animal with us, for information on our adoption donations and information on our adoptable animals please click here for the main adoptions page or use the main menu at the top left of this page.

CURRENT NEWS & UPCOMING EVENTS

December 23rd, 2009
We need snow fencing!

We need a good quality snow fencing to make puppy play areas outdoors this winter. As our Husky puppies get older they will want to start going outside. We have a backyard where they can safely start to get aquainted with snow and outdoor play with thier siblings under supervision. We need between 96' and 120' (feet) of fencing that is at least 4 feet high and the spaces between slats should be no more than 4" (inches). If you can help us out with this please contact us by email info@reachforthestarsrescue.com

Make the Holidays brighter for a homeless animal!
Please take time to consider our homeless animals this Holiday season. With approximately 60 animals in our organization right now your support is greatly needed and appreciated. Think about making donations of toys and warm blankets to make their holidays even brighter. Cat toys or dog toys that are safe for a strong Husky mouth and warm blankets can be dropped off at several locations, contact us to find the one closest to you. Alternately you can make a donation using CHIPIN, our current events have a long way to go before they close in early January 2010. Any amount, big or small, makes a difference, so don't hesitate. Check it out and make your secure online donation today. Our animals thank you for your support and wish you a Festive Holiday Season. .

Now you can Chip In with Chipin!

Chipin is a secure online method of helping to make financial donations towards urgent needs. Currently our biggest need for funds is actually for a group of 11 female and 5 males, but we are trying to raise the funds towards 10 spay surgeries through our new Chipin Program. We will maintain a page with current links which will be found through the Fundraising and the Sponsorship Program menu items at the left. The current Chipin Event can be accessed directly from this button below.

For more information please contact us info@reachforthestarsrescue.com and include `Chipin Program` in the subject line.

Jadzia and Coralie needs help while raising their large families

These two beautiful girls are from the recently publicized surrender of near 100 dogs close to Brébeouf, QC. Both came to us in heavily pregnant states. Jadzia now has 8 healthy pups of one week old. She is gentle, sweet and pretty relaxed for a husky. She loves to get attentiona and be lavished with love. Jadzia needs a safe and patient foster home where she can be with her pups until they are ready for adoption at nine weeks old and on through her vetting, vaccinations and spay surgery. This whole prcess can take 4+ months and we are looking for someone who can commit to be there for her through the entire duration. Coralie, has 9 pups who are all doing very well, but until mom feels a bit better and more confident she will be staying where she gave birth. Once that is achieved she too will be in need of a foster home where she can depend on a patient and kind family who can help her through her journey, also to last 4+ month and includes 9 puppies that will be starting to run and play and will need a safe place where they cannot get into too much mischief! For more information please contact us info@reachforthestarsrescue.com and include `surrendered huskies` in the subject line.

We need downtown venues for Burlesque, Fashion and more!
RFTSR has been planning some great shows and we have some great events in the works, but what we need is a venue for many, specifically for Live Music Nights, a Burlesque Show in the works and a Bridal Fashion Show. If you think you could help to arrange venues where we could hold our events please contact us info@reachforthestarsrescue.com and include `venues`in your subject line.

Reach For The Stars Rescue and the Underdog Gallery

RFTSR has been bringing Shelby, Starling and Arielle by the Underdog Club Gallery for a meet and greet with potential adopters for the past several weekends and have very much enjoyed their time there. In fact, Starling seems to have found her forever home! The Gallery can be found at 4922 Sherbrooke West and opens its doors Saturdays and Sundays around 10:30/11am and usually closes around 5pm. The Underdog Club Gallery is a wonderful places where many rescues are invited to show off their 'old', 'ugly' and 'unpopular' dogs who are available for adoption. Some of the other rescue groups participating are Sophie's Dog Adoption, The CSPCA, Gerdy's, BETA, Animatch, Rosie's Dog Adoption,. For more information on our events please contact us info@reachforthestarsrescue.com and include `Underdog Gallery` in the subject line. If you are writing to inquire about any of our Underdogs please include `Underdog Inquiry` in the subject line instead.

Cat Foster Homes urgently needed
Reach For The Stars Rescue is a foster based rescue and Christmas is not always a great time of year to be a foster animal. Unlike Jason whose foster mom asked permission to bring her foster cat with her when she goes home for a family Christmas this year and which was an invitation we graciously accepted on his behalf, many cats are left with nowhere to go... for the holidays or after, like Clementine, a gregarious kitten who looks like a tuxedo cat but is, upon closer inspection, a calico with a face marked by orange and not white. Clementine was one of a litter of 6 and is one of only two survivors after it turned out they were carrying an aggressive and deadly virus. Clementine survived and was quarantined from other kittens or unvaccinated cats. When another kitten who had survived the virus came along the two were fast friends and went into foster together. I was already suprised that Clem had not been adopted, but I am often suprised. Clem stayed behind when her buddy Teslin was adopted and is now still in her foster home. That's all about to change. Clem's fate hangs in the balance. She longs to be adopted and make a beloved forever friend of that special someone, but she is desperate for a new foster home as her foster-parents are all students returning home for Christmas. After the holidays there is to be a change of roomates in the apartment for the new semester and one new roomate is allergic to cats. Clem still has no clue where she is going and she needs somewhere she can feel comfortable, safe and stable while finally getting vaccinated and spayed.
All our animals, cat or dog, need a foster home where they can wait for their loving forever families to find them. We currently have about a dozen cats that urgently need foster homes for Christmas and beyond, where they can be safely cared for until they are adopted. For more information about opening your home to a foster animal or for a foster application please contact us info@reachforthestarsrescue.com and include `Foster Inquiry` in the subject line.

Fundraising
at Reach For The Stars Rescue

RFTSR is completely dependant on fundraising and it is people like you who participate that allow us to rescue the animals we do. We can not do it without your support. Besides our sponsorship program we have several fundraising events. Some are ongoing like our Gourmet Jam & Jelly Fundraiser and some are timed events like our occassional live music nights or our summer garage sales.
Other fundraisers are in the works but we require your support to help us raise the capital so they can be started. One such upcoming fundraiser is our Cards Fundraiser which consists of postcards and greeting cards with beautiful images of our rescue animals.
Additionally we have what we like to call items raisers. The one we are working the hardest on right now is our Blanket Raiser in which comfy throws printed with our logo will be sold at exactly double our cost so that every time you buy a blanket one is given to a rescue animal which they can keep with them in their foster home(s) and through to their adoptive homes providing them with some type of consistency.
For more information on our various fundraising effort please visit our main Fundraising Page by clicking here or using the main menu to the left of the page.

Our Permanent Foster Program

Tom, a permanent foster with RFTSR, is FIV+ & FeLV+

For those animals who are less adoptable, such as Tom the cat who is both FIV and FeLV+, we have our permament foster program which sees us placing these animals into loving family homes where they can be well cared for and loved for the remainder of their lives. We at RFTSR provide these foster homes with everything they need to give the best possible care to these animals from food and litter to all medical care and supplements required.
These animals are maintained with the best possible care available as long as they have or can heal to have a good quality of life. We do not condone needless suffering and when these animals come to a time when they have no quality of life and have no hope of returning to a quality life we help them cross the rainbow bridge to a better place. These are animals which you will not see posted on our 'Adoptable Pets' lists, nor will they appear on our 'Foster Animals' lists, though you can help support them through our Sponsorship Program.
For more information about our permanent foster program and the animals themselves click here or use the main menu to the left of the page.

Sponsorship Program

Tunu was brought to us in January 2009, along with 3 siblings All four had severe gastro symptoms and they were not neccessarily expected to survive. Thank to the generosity of individuals like you we were able to provide the medical care, medicines and foods needed for all four puppies to recover 100%. All four dogs have
since been adopted into loving forever homes and have long and happy lives ahead of them.

Our orgranization is completely dependant on fundraising to pay for all costs relating to our activities. We have developed a Sponsorship Program for those who would like to have a say as to how their donations are spent. By regularly updating a list of what the animals need and what it costs we are giving you the opportunity to help them in the ways you want to. With sponsorship amounts from $5, (feed and supplement a dog for a day), up to $1600, (the average cost of rescuing a dog), we offer anyone who wants to help a way to do just that.

For sponsorship donations of $20 or more we will send you an digital picture of the animal you have helped as well as a digital certificate which you can print out. Our sponsorship program is a great gift for animal lovers anywhere, any time.

For more information on our Sponsorship Program and a list of current needs please visit our Sponsorship Program Page by clicking here or using the main menu to the left of the page.

Reach For The Stars Rescue animals thank you for your support.

Fostering With Reach For The Stars Rescue

Erebus, Philotes, Nyx are currently still waiting in a
loving foster home for there for their forever families
to find them.

As a foster based rescue organization RFTSR does not have a shelter, refuge or other building where we house our rescue animals. All our animals are kept in foster homes where they are cared for and loved in a family environment. Due to this we are constantly in need of foster homes able to provide a place for a rescue animal to wait in a comfortable and safe environment for their forever family to find them. Fostering is a wonderful option for those who want to have an animal at home but cannot make an 18+ year commitment.

RFTSR We provide all food, litter, blankets, toys and of course all the medical care needed by the foster animal. We feel that since we ask for sepcific brands to be used, in keeping with our commitment to natural care, that it is our responsibility to provide these products to our foster homes. Being dependant on fundraising, are always grateful for donations of food and litter by their foster families, but this is not required to be a foster family.

All potential foster homes are required to complete a foster application and have a homecheck before they are approved to have an animal placed in their home. Duration of fostering varies and we always hope to find homes that can keep the rescue animal until it's forever home is found, but we prefer if you could commit to at least a minimum of 8 weeks.

Potential foster homes with experience or a willingness to take in special cases such as pregnancy/nursing babies, bottle feeders, food aggression and other special needs like Shelby with her neurological problems that make her seem seriously autistic are encouraged to contact us.

For more information on our foster program and animals in need of foster homes please click here or use the main menu at the left of the page.
